The Department of Earth Science, California State University Long Beach (CSULB) invites applications for two different tenure-track Assistant Professor positions.
One in the field of Mineralogy, Petrology, Earth Materials or in any other Geoscience discipline that substantially employs these methods in research to start Fall 2027. Example areas of specialization include, but are not limited to: Crystallography; Economic Geology; Igneous and/or Metamorphic Petrology; Experimental Petrology; Mineral Physics; and mineralogical studies applied to industry sectors such as energy and critical minerals. The ability to teach sustainable resource acquisition is a plus.
The second is in the field of Sedimentology and/or Stratigraphy or in any other Geoscience discipline that substantially employs these methods in research to start Fall 2027. Example areas of specialization include but are not limited to: Sedimentology; Sequence Stratigraphy; Basin Analysis; and sedimentological studies applied to industry sectors such as energy, water, and Mineral resources.
A qualified candidate should be dedicated to teaching at the undergraduate and master's level and committed to developing an externally funded research program that will involve students. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate interest or experience in teaching within the subdiscipline as well as support our field-based classes. As part of a campus that serves a very diverse community, the Department of Earth Science seeks candidates who, through previous experience supporting diverse students or their own lived experience, will be committed to the successful teaching and mentoring of all students.
